Shelter Volunteer Opportunities
Caring people willing to dedicate a few hours a week or month will find their skills and talents make a huge difference to animals in need. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like more information or visit our Volunteer information page.
Current shelter volunteer opportunities include:
Adoption Aides and Counselors: Meet with potential adopters and facilitate the adoption process.
Adoption Center Cat Socializers & Cleaners: Visit Petco and PetSmart in-store adoption center locations in Vancouver to clean the display cages and litter boxes, plus feed and visit with the cats on display.
Bedtime Check: Evening pet care. Litter boxes, food, water, and quiet socializing.
Community and Special Events: Staff community and fundraising events, give education presentations, and run errands.
Dog Walkers: Regularly walk our shelter dogs. This is great exercise in a nice community park along the Columbia River and at the nearby Washougal Dog Park. Must be at least 18 years old to walk shelter dogs.
Foster Care: Foster caregivers help take care of dogs and cats in their own homes, raise and socialize kittens and puppies, and care for ‘special needs’ pets. Learn more about our foster program.
Fundraising: Do you have a special talent or skill that would be valuable to a special fundraising effort? Let us know how you would like to help.
Maintenance: Our dog and cat shelter facilities always need odd jobs and minor maintenance help. Call us to find out how you can be handy. Sometimes big jobs, too.
Marketing: Help promote the work of the animal shelter, encourage pet adoptions, solicit involvement from local residents, businesses, and community organizations, and help raise money to care for the animals.
Newsletter and Website: Contribute articles and help with other tasks needed to produce our newsletters and maintain our website. We also need help uploading information on our animals into national animal adoption website data bases.
Phone and Data Entry Support: Answer calls about lost and found pets, adoptable pets, and basic shelter information. Help with record keeping.
Photographer: We are always in need of attractive photos of our cats and dogs to promote their adoption into permanent, loving homes.
Shelter Cleaners: Light housekeeping including cleaning kennels, changing litter boxes, laundry, dishes, feeding, vacuuming and mopping.
Transporters: Take animals to veterinarian appointments and back & forth to adoption centers and other adoption events.
